If the ocean ever disappears DONT GO LOOKING FOR IT… go in the other direction
i know this sounds like a shitpost but isn’t this like, real advice regarding tsunamis
Yes this was about hurricane Irma it is not a shitpost
This is actually really good advice so let me elaborate a bit: if you notice the tide is retreating very quickly at a very odd time of day, get as far away from water and as high up as you can. I live along the ocean and a long time ago we had a small tsunami and a relative of mine tells me how her father saw the tides retreating so he just picked her up and just ran, which probably saved their lives.
So yeah DONT LOOK FOR THE MISSING OCEAN just run away
ocean not lost, ocean is actually winding up to kick you very hard in the nuts.
Owl be damned…
My latest obsession is carving. And this is one of the recent things I carved, with quarter for scale. The pattern I used was based on a pendant/necklace I saw on Pinterest, but this is considerably larger, as I intend it to be an ornament for my mom for whatever holiday is next. She loves owls.
This was done on a cheap piece of wood from Dollar Tree…I bought a few pieces from there to try out a few ideas and techniques, not because I intended it to be a finished project. But once I started sanding this down, it actually turned out rather nice, except for the knot over the eye, which I accidentally partially gouged out. But that’s okay. And once it’s sanded and burnished, it looks a bit better. Now to put some stain on it and see how it looks :)

Watching the difference between the Twitter migration mentality vs. the Reddit migration mentality is fucking hilarious.
Like, when Twitter users started moving over here everyone was pulling out all the stops and bringing back old fandoms that they were into and basically firing rent lowering shots by being super cringey.
And then all of the sudden when the Reddit refugees start showing up we're like, "ah yes, pull up a log and gather around the dumpster fire. We'll teach you how to not get killed by people hunting down bots and carve out a little area for you guys to relax and get used to the site before we throw you into the deep end of this hellsite that we call home. Tomorrow is Let Papyrus say Fuck day so you can prepare for that if you want. You want some hot coco and a blanket?"
half the “disability” bloggers on this site who copy/paste their queer politics over disabled people and are like…. “Inclusivity!!!!! Is the most!!!! Important!!! Thing!!!! EVER!!!!!” always rubbed me the wrong way. I learned that this meant “I will derail your posts about being left on the sidewalk outside to make it about my sensory needs” and not “we will literally include you by making it possible for you to enter the building.”
it's false comparison, and make it worse, if queer politics are only 'inclusivity is most important thing ever' you need learn about how different queer people need own spaces and have unique challenges.
trans people sometime need own space, no cis, because it not cis experience or space
sometime queer poc need own space, because not white experience or space
sometime trans people who want pass need space apart from people who choose present andro because it not their experience or space
sometimes gay need gay space, no het, even if trans, because it not their experience or space
etc
not derail post, but have to learn no group of suffering people benefits when pretend all needs are the same
everytime i see post about how mean or exclusive cripple culture is i always think of dumb tv quote,
"We're supposed to be a team."
"We're no more a team than the people staying in the same hotel are a team."
Disabled people maybe stay in same hotel. Expect common courtesy in shared lobby, but don't come into room unless invited.
Believe other people if in same group as you, automatically owe you?
Entitled. Toxic. I don't owe you because am queer or disabled or anything, no more than anyone.
Interject sensory needs over post about wheelchair access, too small toilet stall, only steps, no elevator use, etc-that's coming into room without invitation, and get mad when people tell you 'you're in wrong space'
we're not on a team, we have some shared identity
ableds hate us all =/= no space for unique identities
